Agreements between GMOS and a number of institutions, including monitoring networks and scientists, have been established. The collaborative effort is aimed to continue improving and expanding the GMOS global scale ground-based monitoring network and gather historical and current data on mercury measurements in the various environmental media and in biological samples, including those from ad-hoc measurement campaigns made over the oceans or in the atmosphere.

The Agreement includes the acceptance of the GMOS Data Policy, which establishes rules for data collection, management and distribution, and intellectual property rights following the GEOSS Data Sharing Principles.
